We followed the sunrise to the Xia-Sankeng reservoir at the Da’nanshan mountain in Puning city with other members of Shantou Import & Export Chamber Of Commerce on August 23, 2022. And carried out the last stop of the "Three Rivers Source" exploration and visit activities for the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Chamber of Commerce: a trip to Lianjiang.
The Lianjiang River is named for its meandering river and clear water. There are 17 tributaries flowing into the main stream from north to south. The main stream has a total length of 71.1 kilometers and a basin area of 1,346.6 square kilometers. It flows into the sea at Haimen Town in Chaoyang District through the Chaoyang and Chaonan districts of Puning City and Shantou City. It is the mother river of Puning and Chaoyang in Chaoshan region. In history, the water transportation along the Lianjiang River was very important. In the Ming Dynasty, the Cotton City Canal was built in Miancheng City, so that the shipping between the Lianjiang River and the Han River and the Rongjiang River could be connected smoothly. In this way, ships could reach Haiyang and other places safely and quickly without going around the open sea, resulting in huge benefits. Its tributaries of the Baikeng lake to Chendian Town this section of the river can pass the wooden boat, Chendian town 44 kilometers below the small steam wheel.
As one of the three mother rivers of chaoshan, Lianjiang moistens the flat and fertile Chaopu plain which covers 500 square kilometers and it also nurtures 3.5 million people. With the change of times, Lianjiang not only breeds hard-working and enterprising people, but also breeds compact agricultural civilization and smart commercial civilization. In history, our ancestors along the Lianjiang River sailed down the river by boat, either passing through Zhanglin Port, or directly transferring to Longjin Port at the mouth of the Lianjiang River to go to Southeast Asia by "Red Boat", making the Lianjiang River valley an important hometown of overseas Chinese. In July 1987, The Baishui Village on the Da’nanshan mountain was formally identified as Lianjiang birthplace, The words "Lian Jiangyuan" on the cliff of Da’nanshan mountain are written by Mr. Wang Lanruo.Now 35 years have passed, despite the wind and rain, "Lian Jiangyuan", this three characters, like the side of gurgling water, deeply carved in the hearts of Chaopu people, and never fade.
Tracing the roots, we should not forget the origin. The exploration and visit to the source of the "Three Rivers" makes us feel like experiencing a silhouette of time: on the banks of the river and sea, merchant ships are coming and going, the sea is rich and prosperous, the sea is rich and prosperous, and the hundreds of vessels and thousands of sails witness the rise and splendor of the commercial port in one hundred years. Through the source visit and history tracing, we understand the products and culture flowing downstream from the three rivers, laid the foundation for Shantou to build a port, form a commercial port, and even become the central city of eastern Guangdong, let us know more about the roots of the chamber of commerce in the past 20 years.
Later, we went to Lihu Town of Puning to visit the hometown of Mr. Ke Hua, the predecessor of Chinese diplomatic front. We knew Ke Hua's stories through the old pictures, and understood his extraordinary diplomatic mission and patriotic feelings in his life. It encourages colleagues of the Chamber of Commerce to take the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Chamber of Commerce as a starting point to create a " A long way to go, mutual benefit and win-win ".
